Why should I TALK ABOUT Contraception?
- Unprotected sex puts them at risk of unplanned pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections.
- Teenage pregnancy rates in Weymouth & Portland are higher that the National average.
- Two thirds of young people say they didn’t use contraception the first time they had sex.
- You only have to have sex once to get pregnant.
- They need to know they have a choice about when they have a baby.
- If you don’t their friends will! You can make sure they get accurate helpful information.
- Don’t just tell them they can talk to you at any time – instigate conversations.
- Find out about different types of contraception and offer to go with them to visit a contraceptive clinic.
What do I TALK ABOUT?
- There are lots of different methods of contraception available AND contraception is FREE!
- Emergency Contraception can be taken up to 72 hrs after having unprotected sex (sometimes longer – always seek advice).
- Condoms are the only type of contraception that protect against sexually transmitted infections.
